Filling Voids and Cracks With Starbond
Thick-viscosity Starbond is ideal for filling voids and cracks to hide imperfections, leaving a smooth surface ready for final sanding and finishing.

The Layering Technique
For filling voids, use Starbond medium or thick glue (or black glue for dark woods). The key to success is to build layers of glue alternating with accelerator to ensure full curing. Build as many layers as necessary (Photos 1-5).

Photo 1 – Apply the first coat of CA glue in the void.

Photo 2 – Spray accelerator to speed up curing, and wait 20 to 30 seconds.

Photo 3 – Continue applying glue in layers until the void is filled.

Photo 4 – Spray accelerator on the last layer of glue.
Instead of CA glue alone, you can use sawdust with the glue as a filling agent.

Photo 5 – Use a sharp cabinet scraper to remove the excess, then sand the glue flush.
If you’re a woodturner, the final installment may be of particular interest for obtaining a durable, high-gloss finish right on your lathe.
